About the Work
My practice explores the visual and psychological play between the inherent complexities of fabricated structures and the interaction of lines, tension, and the newly constructed resulting space. Altering the agency of mass-produced objects; I warp the purpose of structures, stripping them of all ability to function as originally intended. The altering of iconic forms and their respective historical purpose presents a quandary. The paintings question the feasibility of physical engagement with the structures. The references to common objects invite accessibility to a space of inaccessibility. I skew and limit the indicated use of these structures thus altering their resulting behavior within constructed environments. I have been rendering playground equipment functionless and enhancing logistical impossibilities by inventing relationships with counterintuitive situations of domesticity and the natural environment. Akin to the words of Kant, there is a purposeful purposelessness to these paintings. Sculptural interpretations may be created to further describe the nuanced teetering between accessibility and inaccessibility.
